RESEARCH INTEREST

In my laboratory we study the effect of the Helicobacter pylori’ infection on pancreas, with particular emphasis on epithelial functions and intercellular junctions. This research is approached by using cell lines, animal models and human biospecimens. Furthermore, we analyze the relationship between the infection with metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus 2, focusing in the access routes used by the bacterium, the molecular mechanisms involved and the national epidemiology. We also research the effect of the antimicrobial resistance on the pancreatic infection, as well as the impact on the intestinal microbiota. Alternatively, we examine the molecular mechanisms used by Entamoeba histolytica to invade the host intestine, affecting the epithelial barrier, signaling pathways and gene expression determining the epithelial fade. Here, we employ techniques encompassing molecular biology, cell biology, biochemical, electrophysiological, proteomics and bioinformatics, as well as electronic and confocal microscopy, with the purpose of developing pharmacological or therapeutic targets against amoebiasis.
