Caracterización de modelos experimentales para el estudio de infecciones por protozoarios parásitos (amibiasis, malaria, amibas de vida libre). Análisis estructural y fisiológica de vectores de la malaria). Fisiopatología, toxicología y ultraestructura del hígado y las vías biliares.

La amibiasis constituye un problema importante de salud pública en los países en desarrollo.

Uno de los principales objetivos del laboratorio es el establecimiento de modelos experimentales in vivo para el estudio de la patogenia de la amibiasis.

En la actualidad, se han caracterizado por métodos morfológicos e inmunológicos, diversos modelos para la amibiasis intestinal y hepática, y con base a esto, determinar los factores del huésped y del parásito involucrados en el daño del tejido.

Nuestro interés también por la hepatología, nos ha llevado a realizar estudios relacionados con el daño hepático producido por diferentes agentes toxicológicos; análisis inmunopatológico y ultraestructural del hígado y las vías biliares.
